About Precision CyberKnife
Precision CyberKnife of NY, a robotic radiosurgery system, isn't surgery at all. It's an advanced treatment for cancerous and non-cancerous tumors that offers a non-invasive, non-surgical approach to care.
Offered in East Setauket, Long Island, the Precision CyberKnife system is composed of a radiation delivery device called a linear accelerator, which is mounted on a robotic arm. The flexibility of the robotic arm enables the technology to deliver radiation to tumors anywhere in the body. The technology uses sophisticated software and advanced imaging to track tumor and patient movement. With this real-time imaging and tracking capability, highly concentrated beams of radiation are delivered to the tumor with an exceptionally high degree of real-time guidance.
Precision CyberKnife eliminates the need for patients to restrict their movement and hold their breath, a requirement that is typical with many traditional radiation therapy treatments. In addition to more comfortable treatments and pinpoint targeting of your tumor, the Precision CyberKnife approach offers a shorter course of treatments than is typical. With traditional approaches, patients may need to have 9-12 radiation treatment appointments. This highly targeted approach means dramatically fewer treatments, typically 5-7, offering more freedom and less disruption in your life.
Most importantly, this advanced technology enables your physician to customize treatments specifically to successfully treat the unique characteristics of your tumor-both shape and location-in order to ensure the best possible outcome.
